Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (14-22) lost their fourth-consecutive game in front of a season-high 6,621 fans on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-21), propelled by a quality start from starting pitcher Nick Neidert (3-3), snapped their two-game losing skid, winning 6-3.
Montgomery starting pitcher Genesis Cabrera (4-3) struggled missing bats. The Tampa Bay Rays' number 22 prospect allowed three earned runs and struck out two in five innings in the loss, his first in five starts.
Jacksonville first baseman Skyler Ewing led off the second inning with a home run before Kyle Barnett tripled off Cabrera. Chris Diaz doubled the Jumbo Shrimp advantage with a sacrifice fly, scoring Barnett to make it 2-0. Ryan Schales' third-inning double brought home former Biscuit Cade Gotta, extending the Jacksonville lead to 3-0.
The Biscuits' bats heated up following Cabrera's departure. Jermaine Palacios plated the first run, singling home Nathan Lukes in the fifth. Catcher Brett Sullivan powered his second home run of the season off Neidert to pull Montgomery within one. Neidert held the Biscuits to two runs in six innings and recorded eight strikeouts.
Despite Ryan Boldt scoring Sullivan in the seventh with a sac fly, Schales drove home Gotta on a single. Schales also came around to score due to a Boldt fielding error. Miami Marlins top prospect Monte Harrison provided the exclamation point with a ninth-inning home run.
The Biscuits continue their 10-game homestand on Sunday afternoon in game two against Jacksonville. Zach Lee (4-1) is slated to start for Montgomery while Pablo Lopez (0-0) is expected to take the ball for the Jumbo Shrimp. It will be Mothers' Day as well as Rays Night, featuring mascot appearances by DJ Kitty and Raymond as well as a Rays baseball giveaway.
The remainder of the five-game series includes Golden Biscuits Mondays on May 14 as well as Dollar Dog Tuesdays on May 15.
