BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (69-67, 32-34) slammed out 13 hits in a 7-2 win over the Birmingham Barons (75-61, 31-35) Thursday night in the series opener at Regions Field.
In the fourth inning with the Biscuits leading 1-0, the Biscuits brought ten men to the plate and scored four times. Mikie Mahtook started the scoring with a two-run double. Mahtook later scored on a stolen base and an error to make it 4-0 Biscuits. The final run of the inning was scored with a base loaded walk to Kyeong Kang.
After the Barons scored a couple of runs in the seventh inning, Cameron Seitzer smashed a two run blast in the ninth inning to give the Biscuits a 7-2 lead.
Michael Colla (6-2) went five scoreless-innings for the win. He allowed five hits and struck out three.
Game two is Friday night at 7:05. RHP Victor Mateo will be on the hill for his first start after throwing the first no-hitter at Riverwalk Stadium last Saturday. The Barons will have RHP Scott Carroll on the mound.
