Birmingham Takes Game 3 for Third Straight Win

April 22, 2022 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons are up to three wins in a row after a 4-3 victory over the Shuckers.

Birmingham got five strong innings from starter Jason Bilous. The righty only gave up a run in the first inning, but settled down from there. Bilous retired eight of the final nine batters he faced. All told, the 24-year-old struck out six and only allowed two hits.

Biloxi only got four hits. That is the fewest by any Birmingham opponent this season. A lot of that credit belongs to Bilous, but he shares the credit with Yoan Aybar, who threw a perfect inning out of the bullpen in his Barons debut. Sammy Peralta also shined in a two-inning save. The lefty struck out three, and only gave up one hit.

The biggest hit of the day for the Shuckers came off the bat of Jakson Reetz in the sixth inning. The catcher ripped a two-run homer off of Taylor Broadway.

But Reetz's long ball was no match for the early Baron offense. Birmingham scored in the second inning on a solo shot by Jose Rodriguez, his first of the season. Then Evan Skoug followed suit in the third inning and Tyler Neslony brought another run in with a double a few batters later. What proved to be the winning run came on a throwing error by Biloxi third baseman Cam Devanney. Neslony came in to score when Devanney overthrew first base on what would have been the final out of the frame.

RHP Kaleb Roper (0-1, 5.87) will start for Birmingham tomorrow against Biloxi's RHP Victor Castaneda. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 CT.
