Smokies Fall 8-3 to Trash Pandas Friday Night

KODAK, Ten. - The Tennessee Smokies (7-5) fell 8-3 to the Rocket City Trash Pandas (8-5) Friday night at Smokies Stadium, snapping a two-game winning streak. The two divisional foes have now split the first four games of the six-game series.

Rocket City took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a two-run double from Preston Palmeiro. The Trash Pandas doubled their lead in the third on a two-run home run from Braxton Martinez.

Tennessee's Luis Vazquez made it a 4-1 game with an RBI single in the third. Vazquez has now recorded an RBI in three straight games. After four scoreless innings, Rocket City boosted its cushion in the eighth inning thanks to two home runs, one coming from Blaine, Tennessee, native Trey Cabbage, and created a 7-1 lead.

The Smokies started a rally in the eighth and brought home two runs thanks to RBIs from Christopher Morel and Nelson Velazquez, but could not charge all the way back.

Tennessee starter Ryan Jensen (0-1) donned the loss after allowing four runs in three innings and issuing three walks. Rocket City's Chase Silseth (1-0) picked up the win following six stellar innings of one-run ball, highlighted by seven strikeouts.

The two Southern League North foes square off for the fifth time this week Saturday night at Smokies Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET when the Smokies' send Riley Thompson (0-0, 6.00 ERA) against Rocket City's Coleman Crow (0-0, 1.17 ERA).
