Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds had their four-game winning streak snapped as they were upended by the Lynchburg Hillcats 5-2 on Thursday evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The loss is the first of the series for the Shorebirds (15-6) while the Hillcats (14-7) snap a mini two-game losing streak.

For the second consecutive night Angel Martinez started the game with a bang for Lynchburg in the top of the first by belting a leadoff homer off the right field foul pole, his second of the year, to put the Hillcats ahead 1-0.

In the bottom of the first, Delmarva answered. Hudson Haskin legged out an infield single to begin the frame and then stole second. Anthony Servideo then walked. After two strikeouts, JD Mundy ripped a double to right center, scoring two, and pushing Delmarva ahead 2-1.

Cody Farhat began the third by legging out a triple for Lynchburg. After a strikeout and a lineout, Micah Pries brought him in by legging out an infield single to tie the game at 2-2.

The game stayed tied until the top of the seventh. Christian Cairo reached on an error to start the frame and then stole second after a strikeout. After another strikeout, Cairo sped all the way home on a wild pitch to give Lynchburg a 3-2 edge.

Looking for insurance, Martinez doubled to start the eighth for Lynchburg. Pries then belted a triple to score him, but had to be removed from the game for a pinch runner, Landy Pena. After a groundout, Yainer Diaz singled back up the middle to score Pena and push Lynchburg ahead 5-2.

The Hillcats pitching staff combined to retire 12 of the final 13 Delmarva hitters to finish the game off for a 5-2 Lynchburg win.

Miguel Vinicio (3-0) picks up the win in relief for Lynchburg. Vinicio fired 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out four.

Zach Peek (1-1) is tagged with the loss for Delmarva. Peek gave up three runs (two earned) in four innings out of the bullpen, giving up four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Jerson Ramirez earned his third save of the season, firing three shutout innings to close the game, allowing just a walk while striking out three.

Neither starter factored into the contest's final line. Houston Roth began the game for the Shorebirds and went five frames, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five.

Sergio Morillo started for Lynchburg and lasted just 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks, striking out five.

Delmarva's five hits in the game came from just two players. Haskin went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Mundy finished 3-for-4 with a double and two driven in.

Martinez posted another solid game for Lynchburg, going 2-for-5 with a homer and double. Farhat also had two hits including a triple, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Shorebirds look to bounce back against the Hillcats on Friday, May 28, at Perdue Stadium. Griffin McLarty (1-0, 4.61) toes the rubber for the Shorebirds while Lynchburg goes with Jordan Jones (0-1, 8.31). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage on Fox Sports 960 AM and MiLB.TV beginning at 6:50 with Sam Jellinek on the call.
