MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Delmarva Shorebirds rallied from an early three-run deficit only to see the game slip away in the middle innings in an 11-5 loss to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Thursday night at TicketReturn.com Field.
The Shorebirds (16-32) saw the Pelicans (35-13) jump out early with a three-run first inning.
The Pelicans loaded the bases with one away before Jacob Wetzel drove in two with a double to start the scoring and Felix Stevens then drove in another with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
The Shorebirds countered by capitalizing on their own bases loaded chance in the third. Trendon Craig stepped up with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double down the left field line, tying the game at 3-3.
From there, Myrtle Beach systematically churned out runs to take control of the game.
The Pelicans restored their lead in the fourth on an Ethan Hearn RBI double and he then scored on a Juan Mora single to make it 5-3.
Myrtle Beach put runners at second and third to start the fifth with Stevens driving in his second run of the game with a groundout. After a walk, Reginald Preciado plated another with a sacrifice fly. Hearn then belted an RBI triple to make it 8-3.
With the bases loaded and two out in the sixth, a two-run throwing error extended the Pelicans lead out to 10-3.
Frank Hernandez capped the scoring for the Pelicans with an RBI single in the eighth.
Noelberth Romero got two back for the Shorebirds in the ninth on a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, to seal the final score at 11-5.
Tyler Santana (5-0) collected the win out of the bullpen for Myrtle Beach, going 4.2 innings and allowing two runs on four hits and a walk, striking out five.
Juan De Los Santos (1-6) suffered the loss for the Shorebirds conceding five runs on six hits and four walks in 3.2 innings, striking out four.
