Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

LYNCHBURG, VA - Despite another stellar outing from Jean Pinto, the Delmarva Shorebirds were walked-off on by the Lynchburg Hillcats 2-1 on Sunday night at the Bank of the James Stadium.

In a tense back and forth series, the Hillcats (46-44) emerged victorious taking four of seven from the Shorebirds (48-42).

The contest was scoreless for the first five frames as both pitching staffs were locked in. With one out in the fifth, TT Bowens swatted a triple to right-center before Darell Hernaiz singled him home to put Delmarva ahead 1-0.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth where Lynchburg rallied to win the game. An error and two walks loaded the bases with one away and after a strikeout, Gabriel Rodriguez grounded a single to center to plate two and win the game for the Hillcats.

Andrew Misiaszek (3-2) collected the win in relief for Lynchburg. He pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts despite loading the bases with a single and two walks.

Thomas Girard (2-1) was charged with the loss for Delmarva. Girard allowed two unearned runs in the ninth on a hit and two walks, striking out one.

Pinto was sensational again in his start for the Shorebirds, earning his second quality start in three outings. He allowed just two hits while striking out six. In his two starts against Lynchburg, Pinto allowed just one earned run in 10.2 frames.

After a day off on Monday, the Shorebirds return home to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to play host to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Tuesday, August 17. Starters for the series opener have yet to be announced. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.TV and Fox Sports 960 AM with Sam Jellinek on the call.
