Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The hits kept on coming for Kansas City against Sioux Falls Thursday night. The T-Bones (35-33) pulled out a 10-5 win in the rubber game of the series at T-Bones Stadium.
The Birds held a 5-3 lead after five innings, but Kansas City scored the last seven runs of the game.
Connor Leedholm, signed earlier Thursday, made his American Association debut in the game. He allowed two runs in 1.1 innings of work. The Canaries have Friday off before starting a three-game series at Cleburne Saturday night.
The T-Bones were sharp early, plating three second-inning runs off Birds starter Mark Seyler.
The Canaries responded with three of their own in the third, all with two outs. With first and second and one out, Jordan Ebert and Brett Vertigan completed a double steal of second and third, and both scored on an RBI single from Kevin Taylor.
That brought up Alay Lago, who tattooed a ball to the deepest part of the ballpark in left-center field. The ball thumped off the wall, earning Lago an RBI triple that tied the game at three.
Sioux Falls took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Jordan Ebert, his third RBI in his last two games.
Lago struck again in the fifth inning, knocking a leadoff double to left. Andrew Ely followed that up with a double of his own, putting the Birds up 5-3.
From there, it was all Kansas City, starting in the sixth. Dylan Tice tied the game at 5 with an RBI double to left, and a Daniel Nava RBI single made it 6-5. That prompted Birds manager Mike Meyer to pull starter Mark Seyler and bring Leedholm into the game.
Chris Colabello hit a first-pitch homer to start off Leedholm's outing, giving Kansas City an 8-5 edge.
The T-Bones added a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings, the latter on a solo home run by Nava. The Birds did not record a hit in the last four innings of the game.
