BOWIE, MD - The Trenton Thunder notched a solo homer in the first inning to start the scoring, but did not score again the rest of the night in an 8-1 loss to the Bowie Baysox Saturday night.

Before a near-capacity crowd of 8,912 the Bowie Baysox settled behind their starting pitcher Zach Davies. The right-hander, who allowed the first-inning homer to Greg Bird, settled into his outing and allowed just one run over six innings while striking out nine-including striking out the side in the 6th to end his night. In 17.0 IP against the Thunder this season over three starts, Davies has allowed one earned run (0.53 ERA).

Bird, finished 2-for-4 with a homer and a double. The homer was his 12th of the season between Tampa and Trenton, but was his fifth in 12 games since being promoted to Double-A. The solo shot gave Bird six RBI with the Thunder, all coming on his five homers.

It was a bullpen day for the Thunder and they needed four pitchers to cover five innings. The game was started by Francisco Rondon who dropped to 2-2 with the loss. He went a season-high 3.0 innings and threw a season-high 57 pitches. Rondon allowed the two, first-inning runs before handing the baseball over to Danny Burawa in the 4th inning. Burawa went 2.2 without allowing a run and had two outs with none on in the 6th before allowing two singles and a walk to extend the Baysox lead to 3-1.

In the 7th, the Thunder committed a pair of errors leading to three unearned runs as part of a five-run frame. A 3-1 Bowie advantage jumped to 8-1 to which the Baysox used as plenty of cushion down the stretch.

With the loss, the Thunder are 0-5 at Prince George's Stadium this season and just 1-10 overall against Bowie this season in 11 ballgames. The final game of the season series is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with a 5:45 p.m. Trenton Thunder pre-game show which can be heard on 91.3 FM or on www.trentonthunder.com.
