Altoona Curve News Release
ERIE, Pa. - Dean Green sent the Curve into the loss column in walk-off fashion for a second straight night on Saturday, this time belting three-run walk off homer to sink the Curve, 7-4. It's the third time this year that the SeaWolves have walked-off on the Curve and the fourth time they've beaten the Curve in their last at bat here in Erie. Overall, the walk-off loss is the 12th of the season for Altoona. Alen Hanson was 2-for-4 in the loss and ran his on-base streak to 15 games.
Down, 4-3, entering the ninth, Andy Vasquez smoked his 10th home run of the season to tie the ballgame at four. Keon Broxton, who'd previously walked twice in the game, singled with two outs in the ninth but was stranded on the bases.
Collin Balester (1-2), who'd pitched a 1-2-3 eighth, was tasked with pitching the ninth and got the first out of nine-hole hitter Craig Albernaz. He then walked Jamie Johnson and Corey Jones to put two on before retiring Devon Travis for the inning's second out. He went 3-2 on Green before he homered to end the game.
A.J. Morris, who is coming back from a forearm strain suffered while pitching in Triple-A earlier this year, tossed four innings as scheduled and allowed three runs (two on a two-run homer by Jason Krizan in his final inning of work) but otherwise looked good.
Rehabbing Pirates infielder Clint Barmes had a good night in his second rehab appearance with the Curve. He went 2-for-3 at the plate and converted on all plays hit his way at short on Saturday night.
Losers of the three straight, the Curve (54-73) will look to end the slide at 1:35 p.m. Sunday afternoon from Erie. LHP Zack Dodson (4-7, 4.88), who has turned in a quality start in three of his last four starts, will take the hill in the afternoon finale on Sunday for the Curve. He'll be opposed by Erie LHP Ryan Robowski (4-0, 3.88).
Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. The final homestand of the year in Curve, Pa. is August 22-28 with a pair of jersey auctions, an appearance from Craig Adams thanks to Planet Ice & WTAJ-TV, four fireworks shows and our final giveaway of the season.
