Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that Russian forward Roman Berdnikov has been cleared by the IIHF to play and will be in the lineup tonight when the Attack visit the Barrie Colts. Berdnikov, a native of Omsk, Russia was previously playing for the Omsk Hawks of the MHL, the junior team of the famed Avangard Omsk hockey club of the KHL. Through the first 34 games this season, Berdnikov averaged a point per game while also spending a brief stint practicing with Avangard Omsk.
Berdnikov had been held out of the lineup due to a dispute regarding where his legal commitment was to play. "We are thrilled this all worked out", Attack General Manager Dale DeGray stated. "This was the right decision by all parties concerned. It is good for the Attack and most importantly it is good for Roman that this all worked out."
The 5'11, 185lb winger played his rookie year for the Attack in 2009/2010 but was slowed down by injuries. Despite missing almost half the season, the "Birdman" still managed to put up 9 goals and 24 points as a 17 year old. Berdnikov arrived in Owen Sound before Christmas in tremendous shape and has been skating on the Attack's top two lines during practice and participating in regular team workouts.
Roman will wear #8 for the Attack.
