Owen Sound Attack News Release

When you look down the list of goaltenders that have spent their time in Owen Sound, it is hard to pick one net minder that immediately stands out above another. Owen Sound has been fortunate enough to have many elite goaltenders in their franchise, dating back to the Plater days of Kevin Weekes, Jamie Storr, Brent Johnson and Curtis Sanford, however; there is one young man who is looking to separate himself from the pack.

Jordan Binnington enters play this week one win back of Curtis Sanford's Owen Sound franchise wins mark of 65 career wins. Curtis Sanford, a native of Owen Sound is without a doubt one of the most successful and most popular players to ever dawn an Owen Sound uniform, having suited up for the Platers for four seasons from 1996-2000. During that time, Sanford played 158 games, winning 65 of those, while tying 14.

This season is Binnington's fourth with the Attack. During that time he has suited up in 121 regular season games, tallying 64 wins, however; the majority of Binnington's greatest accomplishments have not come during the regular season. The nineteen year olds greatest accomplishment is undoubtedly his victories in game six and seven of the 2011 Ontario Hockey League Finals where he stopped 66/70 shots to help the Attack capture the J. Ross Robertson Cup. Following his impressive performance in games 6 and 7, Binnington recorded a shutout and was named to the tournaments First All-Star Team as well as the Tournament's Top Goaltender.

The numbers have never been jaw dropping for Binnington, he has simply just won games and made the big saves when called upon.until now. Now he is doing both. The Gravenhurst resident is 3rd in GAA, 2nd in Save Percentage and 2nd in Wins amongst OHL goaltenders and is making the big saves when called upon.

A St. Louis Blues draft pick, Binnington has played in the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects game, will suit up in two Subway Super Series games for team OHL and has been on the cover of an Alpha-Bits box. But the lanky goaltender isn't satisfied with that. He would love nothing more than to add a spot on Team Canada's World Junior squad and eventually a second OHL title to his trophy case.

Binnington will have his first crack at tying the franchise record of 65 wins on Wednesday when the Attack host Guelph. Tickets are available at the Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com or by calling (519) 371-7452.

Game time on Wednesday is 7:00pm.
