Binghamton Falls to New Hampshire in Tight Battle in 2024 Season Opener

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (0-1) fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 5-2, on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium in the 2024 season opener.

The Rumble Ponies got the scoring started in the first inning. Jett Williams led off the frame with a walk, and two batters later Alex Ramírez drilled an RBI double to left field to make it 1-0. Ramírez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, a single, and two stolen bases in his Double-A debut.

On the mound, Joander Suárez worked out of trouble in the first inning for Bingahmton. The 24-year-old allowed the first two batters of the game to reach and then went on to retire 12-straight hitters. Suárez spun five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and allowed just two hits and two walks.

Dating back to last season, Suárez has thrown 23-consecutive scoreless frames over four starts in his Double-A career.

With the Rumble Ponies leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, José Peroza belted a solo home run to right-center field to make it 2-0.

New Hampshire (1-0) responded with a game-tying two-run home run from Zach Britton in the sixth inning that made it 2-2.

The Fisher Cats added a run in the seventh on a solo home run from Garrett Spain and two runs in the ninth on back-to-back RBI doubles from Britton and Rainer Nuñez.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their season-opening with the Fisher Cats on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM and pregame coverage gets underway at 12:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Williams reached base twice on a single and a walk, scored a run, and had a stolen base...JT Schwartz singled in the seventh inning...Kevin Parada walked twice...Carlos Guzman made his debut with the Mets organization out of the bullpen.
