Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The B-Mets allowed a season-high 16 hits as the Akron Aeros took the final game of the series by a 10-1 score at NYSEG Stadium today.
Akron jumped on Binghamton starter Mark Cohoon right out the gate, plating two runs on a Chun Chen home run in the first inning. Chen struck again with another homer off Cohoon in the fourth, his third long ball of the series and fourth in four days. A pair of fielding errors on consecutive batters by Jordany Valdespin helped the Aeros bring home another run in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
The B-Mets plated their only run of the game in the fourth inning off Akron starter Austin Adams. Josh Satin led off with a double to right field and came around to score on Carlos Guzman's single to left center field.
The Aeros broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. Back-to-back base hits to start the frame chased Cohoon from the game. He was relieved by new-comer Michael Powers, who made his Double-A debut.
Powers was greeted rudely by the first batter he faced as Karexon Sanchez ripped a triple down the first base line to bring both runs home. Akron would tack on three more runs in the stanza. It was the fifth time in the last six games in which the B-Mets have allowed an opponent to score five runs or more in single inning.
For the second time this season Austin Adams put in a strong effort against Binghamton. The right hander allowed just the one run on three hits and struck out eight in 7.0 innings, the longest outing of his three-year career.
Ricky Brooks tossed the seventh and eighth, allowing one run on three hits. John Lujan pitched the ninth and allowed a leadoff single before striking out the final three batters he faced.
The B-Mets (7-13) will be back in action tomorrow to kick off a four-game series against the Erie SeaWolves. RHP Brad Holt will make the start for Binghamton.
