New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Britain pinch hitter Ray Chang knocked in Yangervis Solarte for the walk-off 8-7 victory over Harrisburg in the bottom of the 10th inning on Sunday afternoon.

Solarte, the Rock Cats' batting leader, led off the tenth with a double off the outfield wall. He moved to third on a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt by Deibinson Romero. Daniel Rohlfing was intentionally walked to put runners on the corners before Chang hit a fielder's choice down the third baseline to score Solarte for the game-winner.

The Senators jumped on starter Santos Arias out of the gates as leadoff man Chris Rahl singled to open the game. With one out, Steve Lombardozzi lined a triple into right field to knock in Rahl for the first run of the game. Jesus Valdez followed with an RBI single for the 2-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the inning, the Rock Cats cut the lead in half courtesy of an RBI single by Chris Parmelee that knocked in Mike Holliman who led off the inning with a single to left.

Arias ran into trouble in the third after Holliman's error at shortstop allowed Archie Gilbert to reach base safely to start the inning. Gilbert then stole second before Lombardozzi drew a walk. Valdez singled to load up the bases with no outs. That set the stage for Bill Rhinehart's RBI single to right field. Lombardozzi scored on a groundout before Adam Fox drilled a two-run single into center field for the 6-1 lead.

Holliman made up for his fielding miscue by leading off the third with a base hit to right and Steve Singleton followed with his own hit to right. With two outs, Evan Bigley lined a triple into right to knock in Holliman and Parmelee, who had reached base on a walk, to cut the lead in half again.

In the bottom of the fourth, Holliman struck again, this time for an RBI single that plated Rohlfing. In the next inning, the ‘Cats continued to claw back. With two outs, Bigley doubled to right and scored on Solarte's double to left. Romero then lined a single into right to score Solarte and tie the game, 6-6.

In the seventh inning, Chris Parmelee lined a double into right field to knock in Joe Benson, who had led off the inning with a base hit, to put the Rock Cats on top for the first time of the day. The Senators tied the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Devin Ivany.

Solarte (2 doubles) and Holliman each had three hits and scored two runs for the Rock Cats.

Arias, who took the spot of the injured David Bromberg in the Rock Cats rotation, lasted just 2 2/3 innings. He was struck for seven hits and six runs - three earned - while striking out one. Brett Jacobson tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings in relief to keep the Rock Cats within striking distance. Tyler Robertson (2-1) picked up the win with one run on three hits in two innings. Patrick McCoy (1-1) suffered the loss.

ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Yangervis Solarte went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, including the game-winning run.
