Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans broke open a close game in the third period on Wednesday night, cruising to a 4-1 win over the Missouri Mavericks at Allen Event Center.

Gary Steffes, Derek Mathers and Spencer Asuchak all had two-point games for Allen. The victory moved the Americans back to .500 on the season with a record of 12-12-0.

"We're starting to build some chemistry with our group," said Americans forward Derek Mathers, who scored his third goal of the season on Wednesday night. "This was confidence builder for our team."

The Americans outshot Missouri 39 to 33 for the game. Allen went 1 for 5 on the power play, while the Mavericks went 1 for 7.

Riley Gill stopped 29 of 30 shots to earn the win. Jamie Murray, who was returned to Allen today by the San Jose Barracuda, played the final seven minutes of the third period stopping all three shots he faced.

The Americans return to action on Friday night in Wichita for the first meeting of the season against the Thunder. The Americans return home next Wednesday night against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 PM.
