Big Third Inning Lifts Zephyrs to 10-1 Win

Oklahoma City - A five-run third inning by the New Orleans Zephyrs provided all the offense the Zephyrs needed in a 10-1 win against the Oklahoma City RedHawks Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks (47-45) scored first before the Zephyrs tallied nine unanswered runs, including eight between the third and fifth innings in front of a crowd of 3,459. The Zephyrs (45-46) ended a five-game losing skid after traveling to Oklahoma City having lost nine of the last 10 games.

New Orleans outhit Oklahoma City, 13-7, as the RedHawks suffered their most lopsided defeat of the season.

Robbie Grossman led off with a double for the RedHawks to extend his career-long hitting streak to 18 games - the longest active streak in the PCL. He later scored on a RBI single by Marc Krauss to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Zephyrs scored five runs in the third inning. A RBI double by Mark Canha tied the game. A sacrifice fly by Rob Brantly put the Zephyrs ahead, 2-1. A three-run homer by Juan Diaz landed past the visiting bullpen in right field and put New Orleans ahead, 5-1.

A single followed by back-to-back walks issued by RedHawks starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz in the fourth inning loaded the bases. RedHawks reliever Bobby Doran then entered the game to face Kyle Jensen, who hit into a fielder's choice and brought home a run. A sacrifice fly by Brantly followed for the second run of the inning for the Zephyrs.

Foltynewicz (6-6) allowed a season-high seven runs on six hits. He allowed a season-high six walks and struck out two over three-plus innings.

A RBI single by Jake Marisnick put New Orleans ahead, 8-1, in the fifth inning and Kyle Jensen hit a solo homer to left field to boost the Zephyrs lead to 9-1 in the eighth.

Canha hit a RBI single with the bases loaded for the 10th run of the night for New Orleans in the top of the ninth.

New Orleans starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani (2-2) allowed just one run and six hits and struck out seven over seven innings.

The RedHawks pitching staff issued a season-high nine walks and allowed 10 runs in a game for the first time since a 12-10 win May 23 at Memphis.

The RedHawks continue their four-game series with New Orleans at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
