Dan Straily Joins Iowa Rotation

Omaha, NE - RH Dan Straily joined the Iowa Cubs today and will start the team's series opener against the Omaha Storm Chasers at Werner Park tonight. Straily was acquired from the Oakland A's with prospects IF Addison Russell, OF Billy McKinney, and a player to be named later for starters Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel on Saturday.

Straily began the season with Oakland and was 1-2 with a 4.93 ERA (21ER/38.1IP) in seven starts before getting optioned to triple-A Sacramento on May 9. He was 4-3 with a 4.71 ERA (33ER/63.0IP) in 10 starts with the River Cats before the trade, including a win against the I-Cubs on June 14 at Raley Field.

Straily spent most of last season with Oakland and was 10-8 with a 3.96 ERA (67ER/152.IP) in 27 starts. He led all American League rookies in starts, innings pitched, and strikeouts (124). He is 13-11 with a 4.11 ERA (105ER/230.0IP) in 41 career big league starts.

In 2012, Straily led all of Minor League Baseball with 190 strikeouts in 152.0IP between double-A Midland and Sacramento before making his big league debut. He was the A's Co-Minor League Pitcher of the Year and was selected to Baseball America's Minor League All-Star team.

The A's drafted Straily in the 24th round of the 2009 June Draft out of Marshalltown University.

The Cubs open a four-game series in Omaha tonight at 7:05 PM. LH Ryan Verdugo (4-2, 4.10) will be on the mound for the Storm Chasers. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
