SALT LAKE CITY (July 7, 2014) - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Salt Lake Bees infielder Shawn O'Malley has been added to the PCL's 2014 Triple-A All-Star Team. He will replace outfielder Brennan Boesch as the Bees representative.
O'Malley, 26, has primarily played shortstop for the Bees, but has spent time in all three outfield spots as well as second base and third base. In 44 games with Salt Lake this season O'Malley leads the team with a .342 average, with 12 doubles and 29 runs scored.
Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the fifth round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, O'Malley is in his first year with the Angels organization. This is his second professional All-Star selection. He was previously named to the Post-Season All-Star squad in the Florida State League in 2009.
The Triple-A midsummer classic will be held at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C., on July 16. The 27th edition of the Triple-A All-Star Game will be broadcast on MLB Network, the American Forces Network, and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network starting at 5 p.m. MT.
The Bees continue their homestand tonight as Salt Lake hosts Tacoma for the first of a four-game series. Monday nights are Smith's Family Nights where fans can purchase four tickets and four hot dogs for $20 at Smith's Tix locations. Tickets for all Bees games are available at www.slbees.com, by calling 801-325-BEES, at the Smith's Ballpark box office or Smith's Tix locations.
