Nick Ahmed, Kevin Munson Grab Aces Monthly Honor

RENO, Nev.- The Arizona Diamondbacks have named shortstop Nick Ahmed and relief pitcher Kevin Munson Reno's Player-and-Pitcher of the month for June.

Ahmed, 24, was called up by the Diamondbacks on June 29 and later made his Major League debut against the Padres that night.

The Gold Glove-winning shortstop hit .364 (44-for-121) with 16 RBIs, 15 runs, 10 doubles, 3 triples and 1 home run in 26 games in the month of June. His 44 hits in the month tied for sixth most for an Aces player in a single month. Ahmed had 11 multi-hit games and tied an Aces franchise record with five hits in an 18-4 win over Colorado Springs on June 24.

Munson, 25, was 2-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 12 appearances in June. In 16 2/3 innings, he allowed only 12 hits and eight walks while he racked up 28 strikeouts with one save. The 28 strikeouts in the month of June was the most of any Triple-A reliever.
