
Big Sixth Inning Sinks Blowfish

Lexington County Blowfish News Release
The Columbia Blowfish (8-14; 17-33) gave up five runs in the top of the sixth inning to the Gastonia Grizzlies (12-9; 25-23), losing 7-1 Wednesday night at Capital City Stadium.
The Blowfish jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Brison Celek, off Grizzlies' starting pitcher Robert Van Cour.
Blowfish starting pitcher Adam Westmoreland shut down the Grizzlies through the first five innings, including at one point, retiring nine consecutive batters.
The Grizzlies got to Westmoreland in the top of the sixth inning. The first three batters of the inning reached base, including a RBI single by Dan Hennigan. Mac Doyle also drove in a run on a fielder's choice. The big blow to the Blowfish came on a bases-clearing double by Grant Gajdosz, giving the Grizzlies a 5-1 lead. Westmoreland (1-2) gave up five runs on four hits, walked three and struck out seven batters in six innings.
After the big inning by the Grizzlies, Van Cour came back and shut down the Blowfish in his final two innings of work. Van Cour (2-3) gave up one run on six hits, and struck out two batters in seven innings.
The Grizzlies added runs in the eighth and the ninth on Dylan Nasiatka's fifth home run of the season, and a RBI single by Tyler White, both off Blowfish relief pitcher Blake Forslund, taking a 7-1 lead.
Nathanael Steinmetz and Eddie Cumpston retired the Blowfish in order in the eighth and ninth innings to preserve the victory for the Grizzlies.
The Blowfish travel to Florence, S.C. to take on the RedWolves on Thursday. Gastonia travels to Forest City, N.C. to play a doubleheader against the Owls.
The Columbia Blowfish are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
