MISSOULA, MONT - The Great Falls Voyagers (12-9) ousted the Missoula Osprey (11-10) with a six-run seventh to lead them to an 8-5 victory Thursday from Centene Stadium. Missoula swatted 14 hits in the loss.
Missoula tacked on the first run of the game in the third when Jesus Marriaga roped a double down the right field line to score Brandon Leyton and give the Osprey a 1-0 lead. An inning later, Missoula added two more runs when Buddy Kennedy led off the inning with a base hit. Shannon followed with a single of his own to put runners at the corners, and Nick Dalesandro drove in a run to give Missoula 2-0 lead. Leyton grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home Shannon and pad the lead to three.
Great Falls chipped away at the lead with a run in the fourth on an Adam McGinnis home run off Osprey starter Edgar Martinez (3-0). It was the only run Martinez allowed in six innings.
Missoula tagged on a run in the seventh when Marriaga and Eddie Hernandez hit back-to-back singles to start the frame. Zac Almond grounded into a fielder's choice to score Marriaga and give the Osprey a 4-1 cushion. However, a six-run seventh for Great Falls gave them a lead for the first time.
McGinnis reached on an error to start the inning and Ryan Fitzpatrick singled. Maiker Feliz drove in a run on a base hit in the next at-bat, pulling the game to 4-2. Jimmy Galusky and Ian Dawkins were the hit by pitches in consecutive plate appearances to load the bases. Logan Sowers, Lenyn Sosa and Alex Destino all drove base hits to cap off the six-run frame to give the Voyagers a 7-4 lead.
Great Falls added a run in the eight, while the Osprey attempted a comeback in the ninth with an Almond RBI double. However, the comeback was short and the Voyagers earned an 8-5 victory.
Marriaga and Hernandez each finished with three hits and a double apiece. Martinez threw six innings in consecutive starts for the first time this season to lower his ERA to 1.64. Lane Ramsey (2-0) threw three and two-third innings for the win as Devon Perez notched his first save on the year.
First pitch Friday is slated for 7:00 pm at Centene Stadium. The Selway Armory Pregame Show begins at 6:45 p.m. on 102.9 ESPN Missoula and the MiLB First Pitch App.
