Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) - A six-run seventh inning propelled the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 9-2 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday night in Griff McGarry's first start.
McGarry threw two innings, allowing one run on a hit and two strikeouts. On the other side, Adam Kloffenstein gave up two runs (one earned) over five innings pitched, while garnering seven punch outs. Neither pitcher factored in the decision tonight.
New Hampshire struck first as Will Robertson roped a triple off the center field fence off of the Reading starter McGarry. Luis De Los Santos, making his first start since coming off the injured list, hit a ground ball to short that scored Robertson and put the Fisher Cats up 1-0 in the second.
Reading would get a couple back in the fourth. Matthew Kroon reached on an error from Fisher Cats' second baseman Miguel Hiraldo and came around to score when Oliver Dunn smoked a long home run to right field. Dunn's second home run of the season put the Fightin Phils up 2-1.
The Fisher Cats tied the game in the sixth inning when Hiraldo hit a solo home run to make it 2-2. Then, New Hampshire's offense exploded in the seventh. Luis De Los Santos walked, then Orelvis Martinez crushed a two-run home run over the Redner's Event Center. That was followed up with a home run from Sebastien Espino to make it 5-2 Fisher Cats. Another run came home on a double from Steward Berroa to make it 6-2. Miguel Hiraldo then lifted a sacrifice fly to right to increase the lead to 7-2, still in the seventh. Domiano Palmegiani then crushed a home run down the left-field line to then make it 8-2.
Martinez then added his second home run in as many at-bats to tack on another run and make it 9-2 Fisher Cats in the top of the eighth inning.
Luis Quinones got the win for New Hampshire, after looking strong out of the bullpen for the Fisher Cats. Quinones improves to 3-0 on the season. David Parkinson suffered the loss for Reading to fall to 0-2.
With the win, New Hampshire improves to 15-14 on the season, while Reading falls to 11-18. The teams are back on the field Friday night at 6:45 p.m. for game four of this week's six-game series. Friday and Saturday are slated for 6:45 p.m. starts and Sunday is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
