Amarillo Sod Poodles News Release
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Sod Poodles exploded for a seven-run third inning on Thursday night at ONEOK Field, cruising to a 9-3 win in seven innings to take their series finale against the Tulsa Drillers. The game went into a rain delay before the eighth inning began and never resumed.
Right-hander Lake Bachar delivered a fine performance on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings of three-run ball for his eighth victory of the season.
Amarillo took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning against Tulsa starter Markus Solbach. Ivan Castillo, Edward Olivares, Owen Miller, and Luis Torrens strung together four straight singles against Solbach to put the Soddies in front.
Tulsa tied the game with a solo homer in each of the first two innings against Bachar. Jeter Downs made it 2-1 in the first inning while Carlos Rincon hit another solo shot in the second to make it 2-2.
In the third, Amarillo pummeled Solbach with seven runs on six hits. After loading the bases, Torrens walked to give Amarillo a 3-2 lead. Hudson Potts then stepped in and laced a two-run double to left field.
That was followed by an RBI single from Kyle Overstreet to make it a 6-2 ballgame. Bachar rolled an RBI single through the infield for his first career hit and RBI, while Taylor Trammell followed with a run-scoring single of his own. Bachar would later score on a wild pitch as Amarillo took a 9-2 advantage.
On the mound, Bachar settled down and struck out five over his 6.2 innings of work. Blake Rogers replaced Bachar and recorded the final out of the seventh.
As the eighth inning was set to begin, rain and wind rolled through downtown Tulsa. The tarp was put on the field and play was halted. Shortly after, the rest of the game was called off and Amarillo was awarded a 9-3 victory.
The Sod Poodles travel to North Little Rock, Arkansas for the start of a three-game series against the Arkansas Travelers on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.
Amarillo sends lefty Nick Margevicius to the mound while Arkansas counters with righty Ljay Newsome.
NOTES
Lucky 7: With Amarillo's seven-run frame on Thursday night, it tied a season-high for runs scored in an inning. It was the second time the Sod Poodles plated seven in a inning.
The first time the Sod Poodles accomplished the feat was on April 11 vs. Corpus Christi.
Bachar Bounces Back: Soddies righty Lake Bachar delivered a strong outing on Thursday, tossing 6.2 innings of three-run ball for his eighth win. The performance followed a tough relief outing on August 15, when he allowed nine earned runs in 3.2 innings.
Before that outing, Bachar had posted a 2.09 ERA from June 1st to August 9th. In that span, he made 13 outings while throwing a total of 77.1 innings.
Step in Right Direction: Before Thursday night's win, the Sod Poodles were 4-9 in their last 13 games. That followed a stretch between July 1st through August 7th where they went 24-11.
There are only 11 games remaining in the 2019 regular season before the Soddies begin the Texas League Division Series (opponent TBD) on September 4th at HODGETOWN.
