Big Inning Leads Smokies by Biscuits

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Tennessee Smokies (63-62/30-26) scored five runs in the third inning to help surge their 7-3 victory over the Biscuits (59-67/24-32) Sunday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Stephen Bruno, Taylor Davis, and Jae-Hoon Ha all singled to start the third inning as Biscuits starter Michael Colla (7-12) struggled. Pin-Chieh Chen then singled to score Bruno and Davis to make the score 2-1. Albert Almora then came to the plate and singled to right field, which scored Ha and gave the Smokies men on second and third. Addison Russell then cleared the bases against Colla with a double scoring Chen and Almora to make the score 5-1.

The Biscuits scored first with a Luke Maile double in the second inning to score Cameron Seitzer and make the lead 1-0.

Felix Pena tossed 6.1 innings to garner the victory for the Smokies. He struck out four batters and gave up three hits, while allowing two earned runs.

Richie Shaffer collected two of the Biscuits six hits with one RBI and run. Shaffer doubled to start the seventh inning and was later scored on a sac-fly by Hector Guevara to make the score 7-2.

In the eighth inning, Jeff Malm doubled with one out and was later scored by a Shaffer single to left field.

Game two of the series will start tomorrow night at 7:05 pm CST. The pitching matchup will include right-handers Dylan Floro and Corey Black.
