Vargas Placed on DL, Blash Activated from Tacoma, Suspended List

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. - The Seattle Mariners have announced the following roster moves that affect the Generals roster. RHP Richard Vargas has been placed on the disabled list and OF Jabari Blash has been reinstated from the suspended list and transferred to Jackson from Triple-A Tacoma. The moves are made prior to today's series opener at Huntsville at 4:00 p.m.

Blash, 25, has been activated from the suspended list and transferred from Triple-A Tacoma to Jackson. Blash played the first 25 games of the 2014 season in Jackson and batted .262 with 5 homers and 20 RBI. He then played in 45 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season batting .210 with 12 homers and 37 RBI before being placed on the suspended list. Blash, ranked as the Mariners' No. 18 prospect set a career-high with six RBIs on May 25, 2014 with Triple-A Tacoma. He homered three times and set another career-high with seven RBIs on June 3, 2014 with Tacoma. Blash received a 50-game suspension from the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball following his second positive test for a drug of abuse on June 27. He was selected by the Mariners in the 8th round of the 2010 draft out of Miami-Dade Community College.

Vargas, 23, has been placed on the disabled list. In 36 appearances he has a record of 1-2 with a 4.72 ERA. He has five saves in 49.2 innings this season, he has given up 39 hits, 28 runs, walked 34, struck out 48 and has surrendered two home runs. Vargas was signed by the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in 2008.

The Generals roster stands at 25 active players with 12 pitchers, 13 position players, 1 restricted and 3 on the disabled list.
