Mobile BayBears News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Mobile BayBears took the series finale against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, capping the 2014 Bay-to-Bay Series with a 3-0 shutout at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium on Saturday night. The meeting was the 20th and final time the two teams would meet in the 2014 regular season. For the third straight year since Pensacola entered the league, Mobile finished with the edge in the season series, winning 11 of the 20 games played between the two teams this season.

RHP Archie Bradley kept the Blue Wahoos off the bored, allowing just four hits, walking four and striking out three in four innings on the mound. Despite the right-hander's dominance on the mound, he wouldn't qualify for the win. Instead Bradley turned the ball over to the BayBears bullpen where LHP Cody Wheeler (2-0) was credited with the victory, by limiting the Blue Wahoos to just two hits over the fifth and sixth frames.

Wheeler ran into trouble in the seventh inning, allowing Pensacola to load the bases with no outs. RHP Seth Simmons took the mound in relief of Wheeler and struck out the side to strand all three Blue Wahoo runners on base. RHP Kaleb Fleck recorded the final three outs in the ninth to pick up his 16th save of the season. All three BayBear relievers combined to shutout Pensacola on just four hits, walking four and striking out seven over the final five innings.

Offensively, the BayBears made the most of an early scoring opportunity. With the bases loaded and one out while Gerson Montilla was batting, a wild pitch from Blue Wahoos starting RHP Michael Lorenzen allowed Evan Marzilli to score from third and the runners to advance to second and third. Montilla then drove home Brandon Drury with a sacrifice fly to right, giving Mobile a 2-0 lead. The BayBears would add one more run in the top of the ninth when Dustin Martin reached on a base hit then stole second and third base before coming around to score on a RBI ground-out from Argenis Diaz.

Sunday, the BayBears return to Hank Aaron stadium, opening up a 10 game homestand beginning with a five game series against the Mississippi Braves August 17 through August 21. First pitch Sunday afternoon is scheduled for 5:05 PM CT. Once the BayBears and M-Braves conclude their five game series, the Huntsville Stars will travel to Mobile for the first time in 2014, as the BayBears and Stars complete the final five games of Mobile's 2014 regular season home schedule with game one of the five game set scheduled for 7:05 PM CT Friday night, August, 22.
