August 19, 2014 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
With the help of a 4-run third inning, the Grand Junction Rockies improved to 14-7 in the second half with a 5-3 win over the Great Falls Voyagers, Monday night at Suplizio Field.
The win gets the Rockies a series win over the North Division's first half champs and a 5-2 homestand against the North's two best teams.
Grand Junction drew first blood with a big bottom of the third inning. Wes Rogers doubled home Terry McClure and Luis Jean to get the scoring started. Forrest singled home Rogers, and Padlo capped the inning by driving home Wall with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 Rockies.
Great Falls got one of those runs back in the fourth, and they worked back-to-back bases loaded walks in the sixth to cut the Rockies lead to a run, but Cristian Quintin was able to get Hunter Jones to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning and keep the lead.
Quintin retired the side in order in the seventh, while Yoely Bello did the same in the 8th, then Nate Causey gave the Rockies a 2-run lead when he homered in the 8th inning.
Taylor Black worked around a 1-out single in the ninth to lock down his third save of the season.
Rogers was the only Rockie to register a multi-hit game, but the team stole five bases.
The win coupled with Idaho Falls' loss in Missoula gets the Rockies lead over the Chukars to three games as the team's get ready to meet in the first game of a 4-game series Tuesday night at Melaleuca Field.
