Philadelphia Union II News Release
CHESTER, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC announced today that the club has acquired midfielder Chavany Willis (pronunciation: shah-VAH-nee) via loan. A 21-year-old midfielder from Kingston, Jamaica, Willis becomes the 10th player on Steel FC's 2019 roster. The deal is pending league and federation approval. Willis will be added to the Steel's active roster following receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa.
"Chavany is an exciting player that helps add experience to Steel this year," said Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. "His height and technical skill on the ball create dangerous options for us in the midfield and should cause problems for opposing defenses."
Willis joins Steel FC from Portmore United of Jamaica's National Premier League. Willis played two seasons for Portmore United, making 46 appearances and scoring six goals across the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. He was a key part of Portmore's 2017/2018 run to the Jamaican National Premier League title.
"Chavany is a dynamic midfielder, with a really good personality, that can play multiple roles and at 21 he has a ton of upside and room to grow," said Steel FC Head Coach Brendan Burke. "He was emerging as a top talent at Portmore United and we are excited to be working with them to bring Chavany to USL Championship."
Willis has not yet earned any caps for the Jamaican national team, but has played in international tournaments for Portmore United.
