
Benson leads Bighorns over Toros

AUSTIN, TX - Rod Benson scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds and the Reno Bighorns defeated the Austin Toros 124-118 on Tuesday night at the Austin Convention Center.
Benson, who played for the Toros during the 2006-07 season, was 11-of-16 from the field in 33 minutes of play.
"The guys competed well tonight," Reno Bighorns head coach Jay Humphries said. "We started poor but preserved for the win."
Austin led nearly the entire game up until the fourth quarter when Reno took its first lead of the second half on a 3-point basket from Richie Frahm with 11:11 remaining in the game.
Austin had previously won two of their last three games after going 2-8 in the month of March.
San Antonio Spurs assignee Malik Hairston finished with a game-high 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. DeMarcus Nelson added 25 points and 6 assists. Eric Dawson and Stanley Burrell each contributed 18 for the Toros, who dropped to 29-18 on the season. Center Dwayne Jones finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Other players scoring in double figures for Reno Bighorns included 26 points from Richie Frahm and 23 points from David Noel.
The Toros play the last two home games of the regular season against Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. and Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center
