Colorado's Eddie Gill Earns D-League Impact Player Of The Year Award
April 7, 2009 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
NEW YORK, April 7, 2009 - Colorado 14ers guard Eddie Gill was named as the NBA Development League Impact Player of the Year as voted on by the NBA D-League's 16 head coaches, the NBA D-League announced today. Brandon Williams, Director of Basketball Operations, will present Gill the award on April 8 when Colorado hosts the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in their final regular season home game of the 2008-09 season at Broomfield Event Center.
Given to a player who joins an NBA D-League team following the start of the season, the Impact Player of the Year award honors an athlete who made the greatest contribution following his in-season acquisition.
"I can't think of anybody more deserving of the Impact Player of the Year award than Eddie is," said Bob MacKinnon, 14ers head coach. "He is one of the few players who has a direct impact of the outcome of every game without having to score. He contributes in so many ways to our winning; he truly does impact every aspect of the game."
Gill is averaging 15.1 points, 8.7 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 35.5 minutes in 35 games (33 starts) for the 14ers. The 6-1 guard is shooting .795 from the free-throw line and .328 from three-point range, and has recorded 13 double-doubles this season. Gill earned a Gatorade Call-Up to the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 9 and was signed to two consecutive 10-day contracts. In six games for the Bucks, Gill averaged 2.3 points, 1.8 assists and shot .667 from the floor. Since the 2000-01 season, the Weber State product has played for six NBA teams (New Jersey, Memphis, Portland, Indiana, Seattle and Milwaukee) and owns NBA career averages of 3.1 points, 1.2 assists and 1.1 rebounds.
With Gill's efforts, Colorado owns the NBA D-League's best record (32-13) and are a league-best 14-9 on the road.
Gill joins Morris Almond (Utah, 2008) as players who have received the NBA D-League's Impact Player of the Year award.
"Eddie is a veteran and the consummate professional," said Chris Alpert, vice president of basketball operations and player personnel for the NBA D-League. "His impact on the 14ers is evident as they currently have the best record in the League and that is a direct result of Eddie's spectacular play and leadership since he joined the team."
