Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Winnipeg's roster is down to 21 today after Jon Benick decided to pack it in.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced this afternoon following Winnipeg's 14-7 win over Kansas City that Benick, 26, had been released. The first baseman has chosen to retire.
Benick batted .234 in 12 games with no home runs and two runs batted in. He will be replaced at first for the time being by Harry Berrios, who was flawless at first in today's win.
Winnipeg opens a three-game series with Edmonton at 7 p.m. on Friday to conclude a 10-game homestand. Great seats for all home games are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office.
