
RedHawks rally in ninth for 6-5 victory over RailCats

FARGO, N.D. - Brent Krause capped off a come-from-behind victory in the bottom of the ninth inning with a single that fell in fair territory behind the first base bag to plate the game-winning run, giving the RedHawks a 6-5 victory over the RailCats in front of 3,011 at Newman Outdoor Field on Thursday afternoon.
Both teams posted two runs in the first inning before Gary jumped out 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Fargo-Moorhead quickly responded by taking the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Joe Mathis and Brent Krause scored in the inning after both reached via walks.
Gary later reclaimed the lead in the eighth inning when Jay Pecci drove in Alex Taylor from second base.
Down by one run in the ninth inning the RedHawks came to bat looking for their sixth straight victory. They would achieve that as Jesse Hoorelbeke led off with a walk before advancing to third on an Allen Mottram single. Gary unintentionally walked Craig Ringe to load the bases and Joe Mathis drove in the tying run on a sacrifice fly to left field.
With runners on first and second Krause came to the plate a dropped a single over the head of the first baseman that fell near the foul line, scoring Mottram for the game-winner.
The win was credited to Brandon Harmsen (2-0, 0.00) after he pitched 1.0 inning and allowed just one hit. Travis Kerber took the loss for Gary and fell to 0-2 on the season.
Fargo-Moorhead (11-3) will next be in action as the RedHawks travel to Kansas City, Kansas, to take on the T-Bones in a three-game set at Community America Ballpark starting on Friday. The 'Hawks will send Shawn Ryan (2-0, 0.69) to the mound for game one and he will face Kansas City's Jonathon Krysa (1-2, 6.23). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 970 AM WDAY with Scott Miller.
