The Calgary Vipers 8 game losing streak came to an end Thursday afternoon with an 11-2 rout of the Edmonton Cracker-Cats in front of just under 2000 spectators at TELUS Field.
Edmonton starter Jeff Little was tagged with 7 runs on 10 hits then the opening 5 innings. Reliever Brad Cherry allowed the final 4 runs on another 8 hits. Little now has a record of 1 and 2.
Viper 2nd baseman Nelson Castro led the assault with 3 hits, including a 2 run homer. Calgary starter Javier Ortiz, 1-1, pitched a master full 8 and 1/3 innings, scattering 6 hits and allowing 2 unearned runs.
The 4 and 9 Vipers return to the Foothills Stadium for a series starting Friday night against the Joliet JackHammers.
The Cracker-cats head back out on the road for 6 games starting in Winnipeg Friday night. The pitching match up features 2 right handers, Reggie Rivard 2-1 for Edmonton, and Chad Scarberry 1-0, for the Goldeyes. Catch the action at 5:45 PM on The Team 1260.
