Bellevue Blackhawks News Release
Bellevue, WA. The defending ABA Western Conference Champion Bellevue Blackhawks have signed "2004-2005 ABA Coach of the Year" Rick Turner to a contract extension. Turner guided the expansion Blackhawks to a #13 playoff ranking last season, then posted wins over the #4 Texas Tycoons, #5 Maryland Nighthawks and #1 Utah Snowbears before falling to the #2 Arkansas Rimrockers in the ABA Championship game.
Blackhawks President and General Manager, Michael Tuckman, announced Turner's extension, saying, "Rick deserves all the credit for the success of our team last season. He did everything we asked of him and more. This is his reward for a job well done."
Turner, who also serves as Bellevue's Director of Basketball Operations, immediately announced the re-signing of his two long-time assistant coaches, former Washington State star, Harold Wright, and former Seattle Sonics player and University of Washington Asst. Coach Russ Schoene. Tuckman said he would announce the re-signing of several Blackhawks players next week. Bellevue will begin defense of its Western Conference Championship on November 22nd on the road against the Bellingham Slam.
