Blackhawks open ABA 2005 home season tonight
November 23, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellevue Blackhawks News Release
Bellevue, WA. In a message from Michael Tuckman, President and CEO of the Bellevue Blackhawks and Tacoma Navigators ABA professional basketball teams and 2004-2005 ABA "Executive of the Year," he said: "My friend. Please join us Wednesday night, November 23rd, for the first regular season professional basketball game in the history of the Eastside. Blackhawks opening night of the 2005-2006 home regular season has the defending ABA Western Conference Champion Bellevue Blackhawks taking on the undefeated expansion Tacoma Navigators at beautiful Meydenbauer Center at 7pm."
Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna will make an appearance in the ABA's famed "11th Man" program. McKenna will suit up, warm up with the team, sit on the bench and play in the game. Head coach Rick Turner gave the scouting report on McKenna, "He's short, but he's slow and can't shoot, so he's a real triple threat. An upgrade to the talent we have now."
Mr. Tuckman added, "I really like this kid McKenna. He has great moves to the right, but he's such a good playmaker that he ends up playing things right down the middle. I think he has a great future. Who knows, maybe even politics."
When told that McKenna was a prominent Bellevue attorney, multi-term member of the King County Council and was elected Washington Attorney General a year ago, Tuckman thought for a second, then added: "Well, it was either McKenna or Bellevue Mayor Connie Marshall, and frankly, Rob has better legs."
The evening is sponsored by the Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation. All general admission tickets are free and may be downloaded her or from the Blackhawks site: www.blackhawkshoops.com or call 206 686 4636, ext 11 or visit www.abalive.com. -
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
