Blackhawks get big win over Tacoma
December 2, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellevue Blackhawks News Release
Bellevue, WA. The defending ABA Western Conference Champion Bellevue Blackhawks professional basketball team rode a 42-point, 10-rebound, five assist performance by star shooting guard Tim Ellis to its first victory of the season, 108-101 over the previously unbeaten Tacoma Navigators at the Meydenbauer Convention Center. Ellis, who had 28 points in the first half, proved his versatility by scoring both inside on bigger defenders and from 3-point range in leading Bellevue in scoring for the 14th straight game dating back to the 2004-2005 season. Ellis' backcourt running mate, Jim Rainwater, too game runner-up scoring honors with 23 points.
Blackhawks' head coach and 2004-2005 ABA Coach of the Year, Rick Turner, praised his young star, saying: "Tim's game is pretty complete given his age (23). He has good shooting range and knows how to create his own shot and he can stay with most guards in this league defensively."
Former NBA and Seattle Sonics guard, Vincent Askew, suffered his first loss as a pro head coach after three straight wins. Guards Lamar Morinia and Kenny Tate led six Tacoma players in double figures with 22 and 18 points respectively. Next up for Bellevue is the Bellingham Slam on Sunday afternoon at the Meydenbauer Convention Center at 2pm, while Tacoma hosts the Fresno Heatwave Sunday at Mt. Tahoma High School at 3pm.
