Blackhawks sign lease with Meydenbauer Convention Center
November 17, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellevue Blackhawks News Release
Bellevue, WA. The defending ABA Western Conference Champion Bellevue Blackhawks professional basketball team has signed a lease with the Meydenbauer Convention Center to play its 18 home games at the popular venue in the city's downtown Central Business District. Blackhawks' President and General Manager and 2004-2005 ABA Executive of the Year, Michael Tuckman, announced the unprecedented deal at a press conference at the convention center.
"We are flat-out thrilled," Tuckman said. "This is a giant leap forward for pro basketball on the Eastside. It brings fast-paced, family-affordable entertainment to a community that has always had to endure a trying commute to Seattle for live pro sports in the past."
Bellevue will open its 2005-2006 ABA home regular season on Wednesday, November 23rd with a highly-anticipated game with the expansion Tacoma Navigators. The game will match six members of last season's ABA runner-up team now playing on opposing squads. Guards Tim Ellis, Jim Rainwater, Jimmie Haywood and Ardess Ballard return for the Bellevue team while center JuJuan Winesberry and guard Lavell Brown have moved on to play for Tacoma this season. Rick Turner, the 2004-2005 ABA Coach of the Year and former NBA and Sonics player Russ Schoene have returned to coach the Bellevue team while former NBA and Sonics star Vincent Askew begins the first season as a pro head coach at the helm of the Navigators.
Ticket prices range from $5 student admission to $12 general admission and $35 for Courtside Club seats and may be purchased online at www.abalive.com or by visiting the team's website at www.blackhawkshoops.com or by calling 206 686 4636, ext. 11. -
