Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, WA. The ABA Bellingham Slam will play its long-awaited first game on Friday, November 18th as they travel to Southern California to take on the Los Angeles Aftershock. It will be the first of back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night against the Aftershock before the Slam conclude the road trip with a Sunday afternoon game against the Beijing Olympian, a Chinese team playing in Maywood, California.

The Aftershock have a number of Washington players on their roster. The team recently made headlines by signing former University of Washington women's player Giuliana Mendiola and made another big signing last week by inking former Supersonic Olden Polynice to a contract. Their roster also includes former WSU guard Dominic Ellison and ex-Central Washington guard Scott Freymond. The Aftershock (2-2) defeated Tijuana 141-102 last Sunday, in a game that saw Mendiola become the first women ever to start and play in a professional men's league game.

The Slam will also have their work cut out for them Sunday as they square off against a Beijing team with six players who are 6'9" or taller. The Beijing Olympian (1-0) are led by point guard Sun Yue, who has been scouted by several NBA teams. The team's leading scorer is center Huang Hai BVei, who scored 28 points in the team's 122-120 victory over Fresno.

The Slam will return home to play their much anticipated home opener at Whatcom Pavilion on Tuesday, November 22nd against the Bellevue Blackhawks at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Slam's offices at 1200 Lakeway Drive or on the internet at www.bellinghamslam.com. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
