Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees (13-18) ripped off their third straight win taking a 4-3 decision over the El Paso Chihuahuas (14-17) in front of 13,699 fans at Smith's Ballpark on Friday night.
The Bees offense got out to an early lead in the second inning as Zach Humphreys doubled to score Livan Soto. After El Paso tied things up in the top of the fifth, the Bees answered with a pair of runs coming on a David Fletcher sacrifice fly and Trey Cabbage ground-rule double. El Paso again tied it up in the seventh, but Jack Lopez brought home the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice bunt.
Strong pitching has been a theme during the Bees winning streak and Friday was no exception as Jhonathan Diaz turned in a gem, lasting six innings and giving up just three hits and one run while striking out five. Jimmy Herget took home his first win of the season with two scoreless innings to close it out. Cabbage was the offensive star with three hits on the night and his 26th stolen base of the season.
The Bees and Chihuahuas have two games remaining in the series with the next game coming at 6:35 on Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark.
