Bees Walk Off For 2nd Day In A Row

Burlington, IA (June 30, 2008) - The Burlington Bees completed a four-game sweep against Wisconsin Monday night with a 2-1 victory in 11 innings at Community Field. David Lough hit an RBI single in the eleventh to score Adrian Ortiz and give the Bees the win

The Bees were forced to come from behind in every game of the series. Monday night, the Timber Rattlers scored a run in the top of the first inning. After that, Bees starting pitcher Matt Mitchell really settled down allowing just the one run on five hits in five innings of work. At one point, Mitchell retired ten consecutive batters.

Down 1-0, the Bees tied the game in the fourth inning. Johnny Giavotella hit a single to lead the inning off and moved to second when Mike Moustakas was walked. Giavotella moved to third when Jason Taylor hit into a double-play. With two outs, Lough singled to right field to tie the ballgame.

The score remained 1-1 all the way into the 11th inning. In the ninth, the Bees had the bases loaded with no one out but could not score a run. In the 11th inning, Ryan Eigsti led off with a walk and was replaced on the bases by pinch-runner Juan Rivera. Adrian Ortiz then hit an infield single to put runners on at first and second and both runners were able to move up a base on a wild pitch. With one out, Moustakas was intentionally walked to load the bases. The Bases remained loaded after Taylor reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, David Lough hit his second RBI single of the game to win it for the Bees.

Joe Augustine got the win for the Bees to move to 2-0 on the season. In six innings of work, Augustine allowed just a hit and a walk with seven strikeouts. Ortiz, Giavotella and Lough all had two hits with the Bees having just seven hits as a team.
