Salt Lake Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees came from behind to win a ballgame for the first time this season. The Bees scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat South Bend 3-2 and take two out of three from the Silver Hawks.
Eduardo Paulino got the start for the Bees and was very good. He did not allow a hit through the first three innings and faced the minimum through five innings. In the sixth, South Bend was able to score two runs as Gerardo Bustamante and Taylor Harbin each had RBI singles. In all, Paulino went seven innings and allowed just the two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
South Bend starting pitcher Bryan Augenstein pitched a great ballgame. He went seven innings and allowed just three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Ty Davis came into the game to pitch the bottom of the eighth for South Bend with a 2-0 lead. He never threw a strike as he hit Clint Robinson with a pitch and walked Jamar Walton on four pitches. Jeff Dietz then came into the game for South Bend. Dietz struck Nick Doscher out but Robinson and Walton each moved up a base on an error. Ryan Eigsti then singled in both runners to tie the game. Eigsti eventually moved to second on a passed ball and scored the winning run on an Antonio Jimenez single.
Chris Chavez picked up his first win of the season as he threw two innings allowing just one hit with a strikeout. Adrian Ortiz was the only Bee with more than one hit as he went 2-4 and extended his current hitting streak to eight games.
The Bees will open a three-game series with Cedar Rapids on Monday at Community Field. Ed Cegarra gets the start for the Bees. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at Community Field, online at www.GoBees.com or by calling (319) 754-5705.
