Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Burlington, Iowa- The Lansing Lugnuts dropped their second straight series on Wednesday afternoon, losing a 7-4 decision to the Burlington Bees at Community Field. The loss wraps up a six-game road trip for Lansing, where the Lugnuts finished with a 2-4 record.

It was a scoreless game until the fourth when the Bees drew first blood on Jason Taylor's two-run homer to left field. The dinger was also the first hit of the game for Burlington.

Lansing would answer back in the fifth when Yohermyn Chavez blasted his third round tripper of the season, a solo shot that cut the lead to 2-1. However, everytime the Lugnuts scored, the Bees had a reply.

Burlington plated a run in the bottom of the frame on Adrian Ortiz's RBI groundout to regain the two-run advantage.

The two teams would trade runs in the sixth inning as well before Lansing again pulled within one in the seventh. Raul Barron singled and later scored when a throw from the Bees' catcher Todd Balduf sailed into left field as Barron was attempting to steal third base.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Burlington would take full control of the game by scoring three times off of Lansing reliever Alan Farina. Balduf started the inning with a triple into right field and later scored on an Antonio Jiminez single to make it a 5-3 game. Mike Moustakas then singled to bring up Taylor, who lined a two-run single into center to put the game away at 7-3.

Taylor finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Ed Cegarra (1-0) notched the win for the Bees by tossing six innings and allowing two runs on six hits while fanning six batters.

Joe Augustine got his first save of the year after throwing the final three frames.

Nate Starner (0-2) suffered the loss for the Lugnuts, allowing three runs on as many hits in five innings.

Justin Jackson was the offensive highlight for Lansing, as he went 4-for-5 in the game. The Lugnuts finished with 11 hits, marking the first time this season that they have reached double-digits in that category and lost.

Lansing (8-5) will return to Oldsmobile Park on Thursday night to open a seven game homestand, beginning with a three-game set against the Kane County Cougars. Brad Mills (1-0, 2.70) will make the start for the Lugnuts, while Jamie Richmond (1-0, 6.75) will take the mound for the Cougars.

It will be a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday, with beer and soda on-sale for just $2. The game will also be the first installment of the WILX Summer Entertainment series featuring 70s night and The Amazing Christopher. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
