Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs closed out the first half of the 2018-19 regular season on a high note on Sunday, defeating the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-5 in overtime. Rookie forward Adam Beckman set a new career high with four points (2G-2A).

After an early Seattle score by team captain Nolan Volcan, Beckman one-timed his WHL rookie-leading 16th goal past Thunderbirds netminder Liam Hughes off a perfect feed from linemate Eli Zummack. The Chiefs earned their first lead of the night four minutes later as a Luke Toporowski pass bounced off a Seattle defender and in.

The Thunderbirds stormed back with a goals from Matthew Wedman and Dillon Hamaliuk to take a 3-2 lead midway through the second.

Spokane's Luc Smith tied it up with 4:28 left in the middle frame to make it 3-3 heading into the second intermission.

Beckman fired a rocket just over a minute into the third period that was initially waved off before video review confirmed it found the twine to make it 4-3 Spokane.

Wedman added his second of the night seven minutes later to tie it at 4-4 before recently acquired defenseman Noah King scored his third of the season to put the Chiefs back ahead with 9:37 left in regulation.

Hamaliuk scored on the power play to force overtime before Eli Zummack - off an assist from Beckman - secured the victory for Spokane, slipping a backhand past Hughes 1:47 into the extra time.
