Royals' Hannoun Named WHL On the Run Player of the Week
December 17, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals forward Dante Hannoun has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending December 16, 2018.
Hannoun collected nine points (3G-6A) in four games this week as the Royals headed into the WHL's holiday break with a 16-13-1-0 record, placing them third in the B.C. Division and just one point behind the Kelowna Rockets for second place.
In Tuesday's 7-4 win against the Portland Winterhawks, Hannoun recorded four points, scoring Victoria's fourth and seventh goals while adding assists on their first and fifth goals of the game. Hannoun was named the second star of the game while the four-point effort was the fourth time he's reached that mark in his WHL career.
After being held pointless in a 7-2 loss to the Winterhawks Wednesday, Hannoun responded with three assists in a 5-1 victory over the Prince George Cougars Friday. Hannoun picked up helpers on the Royals' first, second, and fifth goals in the contest. Saturday, Hannoun sent the Royals into the holiday break on a high note with a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Giants that saw him score their fourth goal and add an assist on the team's this goal of the game.
Overall, eight of Hannoun's nine points came at even strength throughout the week. The 5-foot-6, 160-pound product of Delta, B.C. has now recorded 28 points (13G-15A), including five power-play goals and three game-winning goals in 24 games this season. Originally selected 11th overall by the Royals at the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, the 20-year-old Hannoun has appeared in 282 WHL regular season games, posting 240 points (92G-148A), including 35 power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and 14 game-winning goals.
Hannoun's regular season point totals rank fourth among all Royals players during his time with the team, with only Tyler Soy, Matthew Phillips, and Jack Walker surpassing Hannoun's totals. Hannoun just needs eight more points to surpass Walker for third on that list.
The Royals return from the holiday break with a road trip through the Central Division, beginning Friday, December 28 (7:00 p.m. MT) against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Enmax Centre.
