Beckman Records Second Straight Hat Trick as Chiefs Top T-Birds, 8-3

Spokane, Wash. - Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman recorded a hat trick for the second straight game as the Spokane Chiefs recorded a season-high eight goals in their 8-3 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday night .

For just the third time this season, the Chiefs registered the game's first score, getting on the board at 3:48 when Eli Zummack collected the rebound of a Raegan Wiles shot and deposited it home. The Chiefs added onto their lead at 9:23 when Owen MacNeil sent a pass through the slot to Copeland Fricker, who fired it into a wide open Seattle net for his second score of the season. The Thunderbirds responded at 10:49 with a goal from Jared Davidson to make it 2-1 entering the first break.

The Chiefs took control in the second, connecting for four goals, including two by Beckman in addition to markers from Blake Swetlikoff and Matt Leduc. Seattle picked-up a score from blueliner Cade McNelly.

Following a tally by Seattle's Keltie Jeri-Leon that made it 6-3 Spokane at 6:08 of the final period, Beckman took advantage of a Seattle turnover near center ice and walked to the Thunderbirds' net for the short-handed goal to push the lead back to four. Rookie first-round bantam draft pick Ben Thornton connected for the first goal of his Western Hockey League career at 16:08. Chiefs defenseman Bobby Russell added three assists on the night, while fellow blueliner Raegan Wiles ended the night +5 with a pair of assists.

Chiefs netminder Campbell Arnold finished the night 25-for-28, while Seattle split goaltending duties between Jackson Berry, who was 15-of-21, and Scott Ratzlaff, who saved 8-of-10. Spokane was 2-for-4 on the power play while Seattle was held 0-for-3.

The Chiefs are back in action Sunday, May 2 as they host the Everett Silvertips for the final time this season. The game is set to start at 5:10 p.m. Chiefs fans can watch that game live on SWX, or online via WHL Live, in addition to listening live over the radio waves on 103.5 FM The Game.
