Portland Beavers News Release
MYROW, HEADLEY POWER BEAVERS PAST 51s Portland gets two homers from Myrow, welcomed pitching effort from Ramos, Zarate
For immediate release: June 11, 2008 LAS VEGAS - Brian Myrow belted two home runs, Chase Headley hit his 11th of the year and drove in three runs, and Cesar Ramos gave the Portland Beavers 6 2/3 quality innings to help them beat the Las Vegas 51s 9-3 Wednesday night at Cashman Field.
Myrow, who just missed hitting a third home run by doubling off the fence in the fifth, was 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored to lead the Beavers (32-32), who beat the 51s (35-31) for just the second time in their last 11 meetings at Cashman Field.
Myrow, the Pacific Coast League batting champion from a year ago, ranks among league leaders in batting average, runs scored and on-base percentage, hitting .350 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs this season.
A night after allowing 13 runs in an inning and using five different relievers after an eight-run lead dissolved, Portland got a much-needed effort from Ramos, who picked up his first road victory since April 16. Ramos (6-5) limited the 51s to three runs (2 earned) and scattered 10 hits while striking out three.
Mauro Zarate, the only member of the Portland bullpen not to pitch in its 14-8 loss to Las Vegas Tuesday night, closed out the game with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Las Vegas' Miguel Pinango (3-4) struggled for a second straight start, giving up eight runs, 10 hits - including three homers - and three walks in the loss in four-plus innings. The right-hander has allowed 16 runs in nine innings of work across his last two outings.
Portland took the lead in the second, getting a leadoff solo homer from Myrow and an RBI single from Matt Antonelli. Myrow's two-run shot in the third pushed the lead to 4-1.
In the fifth, the Beavers opened up an 8-2 lead, as Headley belted a two-run homer off Pinango, while Vincent Sinisi, who was 3-for-5 with a double, and Shawn Wooten hit back-to-back RBI singles.
Headley, whose sacrifice fly plated Brett Dowdy in the sixth, drew two walks and scored twice for Portland.
The 51s scored an unearned run on an RBI groundout by Xavier Paul in the first and later got RBI singles from Angel Chavez and Jason Repko, who had three hits.
The Beavers, currently on a season-long, 12-game road trip, wrap up their series with the 51s Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
NOTES: It was Myrow's second two-homer game of the season and his third in two campaigns with Portland ... the Beavers are 3-4 on their road trip ... all eight starting position players had a hit for Portland.
