New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Metairie, LA - The New York Mets have promoted outfielder Chris Aguila from the New Orleans Zephyrs, it was announced Wednesday. The move comes after the Mets designated Abraham Nunez for assignment following Tuesday's game.
Aguila was batting .308 in 62 games for the Zephyrs, starting 56 games in left field. He led the club with 17 home runs (third-most in the Pacific Coast League) and 40 RBI.
The 29-year-old outfielder was honored as the PCL's Hitter of the Week for the week ending June 1, after batting .500 and hitting six home runs in a four-day stretch, including back-to-back games with two homers.
Aguila last played in the majors in 2006, when he appeared in 47 games with the Florida Marlins. He has a .234 career batting average in 141 major league games over parts of three seasons (2004-06) with Florida.
The Zephyrs added outfielder Raul Gonzalez from the inactive list to take Aguila's place on the roster.
