Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis received a complete game effort from starter Mike Parisi to beat Iowa 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
Parisi used 103 pitches over nine innings to earn the Redbirds second complete game of the season. The right-hander allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts for his third win of the year. He joins Mitchell Boggs as the only âBirds pitcher to toss a complete game this season and becomes the first Redbirds pitcher since Chris Narveson to pitch a complete game at AutoZone Park. Narveson accomplished the task last April against Omaha.
Brian Barden led the Redbirds offense with two hits and three runs scored. Barden led off the game with a walk and came around to score on David Freese's sacrifice fly. The âBirds shortstop struck again in the second inning with a two-run homer and later doubled and scored in the sixth inning. Jason Dubois put the Cubs on the board first with a solo homer in the first inning and starter Rich Hill drove in a run in the second inning.
Hill took the loss for Iowa allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits and six walks over four innings. The loss snapped Iowa's seven-game win streak and brought Memphis within five games of the division leading Cubs.
The âBirds wrap up their eight-game homestand tomorrow night against Iowa. Memphis is scheduled to send P.J. Walters to the mound to face Cubs right-hander Justin Berg. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
