Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Sacramento got two early home runs and didn't look back in their 5-2 victory over the Tucson Sidewinders on Wednesday night. Even though the Sidewinders outhit Sacramento it wasn't enough for Tucson to get their third straight victory.
Tucson's starter Esmerling Vasquez got in trouble really early in the game giving up back-to-back homeruns to the first two batters he faced. Ryan Sweeney hit his first home run in a Sacramento uniform coming off the first pitch of the game, while Brooks Conrad was the second man to go deep.
Tucson cut the lead by one in the second when Trent Oeltjen led off the inning with a double and was later brought in by an Emilio Bonifacio single.
Sacramento added three to make the score 5-1 in the fourth inning. Two of the three runs came of a Casey Rogowski line drive single and the other one was brought in by a Sweeney double.
The Sidewinders produced one run in the sixth off a Jesus Merchan single scoring Jamie D'Antona from third, but couldn't get another run through the rest of the game to make the final 5-2.
The Sidewinders will face the River Cats in the last game of the series starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday night. RHP A.J. Shappi (0-0, 1.50) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Left-hander Dan Meyer (5-3, 4.64) will start for Sacramento. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50 p.m.
